Tom Penny. TP. The elusive, nomadic, soft spoken, humble one. If you don't know about Tom Penny, then like FLIP skateboards says, SORRY, REALLY SORRY! You just had to be there. Tony Hawk was once quoted saying: "If Tom Penny ever started skating Vert full time, we all might as well retire".

I met Tom in May 2011. In a crazy coincidence (or was it?) Vincent Alvarez was suppose to have come out with me to Barcelona to film for the video but got hurt the week before and couldn't come. I had no one to film with until Justin & Jesse came out a couple weeks later. It was like it was all meant to be. I gave Tom the temporary number I had and less than a week later he called me to go skate. The first day we went out to skate & film, Tom said he just wanted to do this 360 shuv drop in on this red brick bank. He said if he landed it we were all gonna go have Sangria on this dope Yacht type boat parked in the bay. Before we even got to the spot I showed him this quick wallride type spot. He liked it and we got the 360 flip fakie and the line with the wallie and the nollie flip. We headed to the drop in bank spot. Couple of tries and he did the 360 shuv in! We went and had the Sangria. Tom was super hyped! We got done with Sangria on the boat and we walk a couple steps and theres this banked ledge. Tom says hold up I got something. Does the Backside tail and the Backside Tailslide revert. We walk across the street and theres a similar obstacle but you can do tricks into the bank. Tom switch frontside flips into it like nothing! Tom was super happy. The day was ending and we headed to MACBA to rest and chill with friends. After being there for about 20 minutes Tom comes to me and says he got a line. I never saw a spot, let alone MACBA, where everyone sits down to let a skater skate. Specially MACBA! theres usually at least 100 people there on a good day. But once Tom started trying his line, everyone sat down. The place was quiet. The line is the Switch crooks, switch flip, & switch pop shuv down the set thats in this part. After he landed that it was a wrap! Tom couldn't believe the day had turned out the way it did and we called it after that for dinner and some Damm Lemons!

So salute to a real G who showed us how to flick properly and reminds us of what the goals of a true skateboarder is: to be a unique individual who uses the terrain available in his own creative way for the simple enjoyment a skateboard brings us. Fuck the Money. Fuck the Fame. Just go have fun on a skateboard!

and weird have all been used to describe his work

and the characters therein."

In September 1988, when he died of a heart attack

inside his parked car, his third wife Marilyn

(whom he had married in a pet cemetery) made

a remark that could have been a caption for one

of his cartoons: "He's always been a car buff, so it

was a nice way to go,"

she told The New York Times.

FATHER OF LSD

R.I.P Albert Hofmann

11 January 1906 – 29 April 2008

He was the Swiss chemist who accidentally

invented LSD and then tested it on himself

in the first human LSD trial.

Bicycle Day is April 19, commemorating

April 19, 1943, when Dr. Albert Hofmann

first took LSD intentionally.

Three days earlier, he had absorbed

a small amount of the drug either through

his fingertips or by accidentally ingesting it.

On Bicycle Day, he took 250 µg of LSD

intentionally and, fearing he had made

himself ill, cycled home from his lab. During

his bicycle ride, he experienced the effects

of LSD, making this the date of the first ever

acid trip. He wrote about his experiments and

experience on April 22, which was later put

into his book LSD: My Problem Child. (1980)

Why "My Problem Child"?

He strongly believes LSD can be

a beneficial way for one to get to know

oneself and experience other worlds, but

only if the user is mentally and physically

prepared for the journey. Kids in the 60s

getting drunk and dropping ten hits gave

the drug a bad name, to say the least...

"I think that in human evolution it has never

been as necessary to have this substance

LSD... It is just a tool to turn us into what we

are supposed to be."

Albert Hofmann died of natural causes on April

29, 2008 in the village of Burg im Leimental,

near Basel, Switzerland. He was 102 years old.

Time Code was the second video release

from Alien Workshop and featured Josh Kalis,

Thomas Morgan, Mike Hayes, John Drake,

Fred Gall, Rob Dyrdek, Scott Conklin,

Bo Turner and LENNIE KIRK.

"As legend has it, Lennie was left completely

blind for nearly two hours after the dumpster

slam in the beginning of his Timecode part."

Lennie found god, and started reading bible

verses before he would try a trick.

Janis Lyn Joplin

January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970

One of the most influential musical artists of

the 20th century, and an important figure of

the 1960s rock 'n' roll era. Joplin arrived on

the counter-culture scene of the 1960s as

a rebellious soul with an unconventional

attitude towards sex, drugs, and music.

In 1966 she become lead singer for

Big Brother and the Holding Company.

The almost unheard of rock band took part

in the 1967 Monterey International

Pop Festival in California.

In 1968 after breaking away from Big Brother,

Joplin launched a solo career which

consisted of a new backup group called

the Kozmic Blues Band.

A 1965 Porsche 356 Cabriolet. Bought by

Janis Joplin in September 1968...

and hand-painted by a friend.

1969 - Woodstock Festival was not a happy

affair for Joplin. Faced with a ten hour wait

after arriving at the festival, she shot heroin

and was drinking alcohol, so by the time

she hit the stage, she was

"three sheets to the wind."

By 1969, Joplin was reportedly using at least

two hundred dollars worth of heroin per day.

Two years later, Joplin moved on again,

this time forming the Full-Tilt Boogie band.

It was during this time that Joplin produced

her last record, Pearl. The album included

the track "Mercedes Benz," a social

commentary on materialism that would

become a popular single. It would also be

the last song that Joplin ever recorded.

On October 4, 1970, Joplin died of a heroin

overdose at the Landmark Motor Hotel in

Los Angeles, California. She was only 27

years old at the time of her death.

Joplin remains an icon for female singers

as breaking through in a male dominated blues

scene. She is listed as number 46 on Rolling

Stone's

list of greatest artists as well as

number

28 on their

list of greatest singers.

Since her death, Joplin's albums have gone

gold platinum, and triple-platinum; Joplin was

inducted into the Rock and Roll

Hall of Fame in 1995.

THE GOONIES

The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure

-comedy film directed by Richard Donner.

The screenplay was written by Chris
Columbus from a story by executive

producer Steven Spielberg.

A band of children from the "Goon Docks"

neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, hoping to

save their homes from demolition, go on an

adventure to find the buried treasure of One

-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate.

SLOTH - John Matuszak's

make-up

took

5 hours to complete.

One of the eyes (which

was out of place

on the face) was

mechanically operated

off-screen by remote

control.

Someone would count down, and

Matuszak would blink his other

eye in synchronization.

The cast was told not to get him wet in

scenes outside of the pirate ship.

Unfortunately, he got wet, delaying filming

for an entire day.

CHUNK: I'm gonna take care of you.

June 7th was officially declared "Goonies

Day" by the Mayor of Astoria (where the

movie was filmed) during the 25th

Anniversary Celebration in 2010.

One Eyed Willie's ship, The Inferno, was 105

feet long and took 2-1/2 months to construct.

It was modeled after Erroll Flynn's ship in

"The Sea Hawk" (1940). The sails required

more than than 7,000 square feet of material.

Some of the ship's rigging was recycled from

the Pirates of the Caribbean ship at

Disneyland, which was being

renovated at the time.
